Forty-six-year-old Dan Tang pleaded guilty Friday in Denver federal court. His Heaven Dragon restaurant in Thornton features photos of Tang with Republican notables including former President George W. Bush.

Mina Brees, an attorney from Austin, Texas, and mother of New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, died on Aug. 7 while visiting Colorado. This week Grand County coroner Brenda Bock concluded that she died of a prescription drug overdose and ruled the death a suicide. Bock said Brees died while staying at the home of a friend in Granby near Rocky Mountain National Park.

Summit County Coroner Joanne Richardson says witnesses reported seeing Haley Rose Gans skiing very fast into a tree Friday. Richardson says the cause of death appears to be related to blunt force trauma to the chest.

Prison spokeswoman Katherine Sanguinetti says the alleged murder took place in the cellhouse. Killed was Ronald Ferguson, 50, who was in prison for sexual assault on a child in Arapahoe County, convicted for the crime in 1996. He allegedly had a history of violence in prison, including assault on and threats to other inmates.

The figures released Friday by the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment show that about 184,300 residents are looking for work. At the same time, state officials say that some of the Colorado's biggest industries also added jobs in October.

Peter W.S. Grigg was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Robert E. Blackburn to serve five years probation, with the additional sentence of 180 days in-home detention, to begin Jan. 1, 2010. Grigg was also ordered to forfeit any and all assets and property, namely $4,755 in cash seized from his briefcase, $12,215 in cash seized from a safe in his home, and a number of valuable coins seized from his briefcase or storage unit.  Grigg also agreed to abandon nine firearms, including two Smith & Wesson handguns, two Glock 40 handguns, and a Marlin Model 81G .22 rifle.

Stephanie Villafuerte has refused to answer questions from the media about what conversations she had two years ago about an illegal immigrant who became a controversial figure in race. But in a letter to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, the former Denver chief deputy district attorney says the answer to whether she used a database for campaign purposes "is emphatically no."

The Associated Press reviewed nomination records at the U.S. Naval, Military and Air Force academies over five years. Most congressional members make many nominations. About half of all House lawmakers nominated more than 100 students each over the period.

Eldora Mountain Resort and Vail Mountain were offering limited terrain for their first day Friday. Seven other resorts opened earlier this fall. About the same amount will be opening for the season next week.

Gov. Bill Ritter has appointed attorney Barbara J. Kelley of Denver to be the new executive director of the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, effective Dec. 1. She replaces Rico Munn, who became the executive director of the Colorado Department of Higher Education earlier this month.

The employee told police a man with a silver handgun demanded cash, left the store where the employee tackled the suspect from behind outside in the parking lot. All of the money and the handgun were recovered by the employee during the struggle. The employee was not injured.

A Fort Carson soldier convicted of killing two Colorado Springs residents and critically wounding a fellow soldier has been sentenced. Jomar Falu-Vives was sentenced Thursday to two mandatory life sentences without the possibility of parole.

Westminster police spokesman Trevor Materasso said the injuries to the police officers weren't life-threatening. The chase began after officers tried to pull over a man and woman suspected of robbing a bank. The suspects allegedly fired at the officers but the officers were able to stop them after spinning out their car about 1.5 miles away.

The quarter ending Sept. 30 was the fourth consecutive quarter in which new foreclosure filings increased. For the year so far, new foreclosure filings in Colorado are up about 18 percent compared to the same period in 2008. The news isn't all bad, though.
